Description
Medix Ambulance is reviving “Safe Kids North Coast” . Medix Ambulance along with Safe Kids Oregon will be hosting a second meeting. Our first meeting was a success with 40 in attendance and 21 who offered to volunteer. Our next meeting's mission is to decide what the top three injury focuses are going to be and determine the leads/sub committees. We invite you to join our discussion regarding child injury prevention in Clatsop County.
Date: February 24, 2015
Time: 10:30am
What is Safe Kids?
Safe Kids coalitions are grassroots collaborations between individuals and organizations in a community that conduct multifaceted childhood injury prevention efforts. Safe Kids works to provide parents and kids with helpful hints and tools to keep children safe in areas of road safety, sports safety, fire and drowning prevention to name a few. In the past 25 years Safe Kids programs and efforts around the country have help reduce the number of childhood deaths due to unintentional injuries by more than 50%.
What did Safe Kids North Coast accomplish?
Safe Kids North Coast was a very active coalition from 2008 through 2013. The attached Safe Kids North Coast report from 2012 illustrates the good work that was done in our community and the partner organizations that helped make it happen.
Preventable injuries are still the number one cause of death for children in the United States. In Clatsop County between 2010 and 2012, there were five fatalities and 48 hospitalizations of children under 19 years.
We look forward to a robust discussion on how we can coordinate the child injury prevention efforts in Clatsop County, collaborate with each other in our work and support families in keeping their kids safe. Please share this invitation with others you know that would be interested in attending. Everyone is welcome.
