First Saturday Art Walk

Celebrating 14 years in 2018, the next Seaside First Saturday Art Walk, will be held on September 1, 5-7: pm. The event is free and is all about seeing and selling art in sponsoring businesses between Holladay and Broadway in the historic area of downtown Seaside.
1.       Peddler's Row, 600 Broadway
Featuring vintage original oils, designer goods, work created by artisans, and collectibles gathered from all over the country! Peddler's Row is an antique business curated by Avery Loschen and Will Perkins, property owners of the Gilbert Block Building.
2.       SunRose Gallery, 606 Broadway
Wool sculpture artist Robin Montero is introducing a new felted lamp series "Natural Beauty" in the form of internally illuminated light sconces, all handcrafted, hand cut and made from scratch. "Beauty is all around and sometimes we need to just pause, experience and appreciate what is out there," Robin says. Her vision in the creation of these lamps, both wall mounted and tabletop is to capture phenomenon we do not realize we see in our daily existence and translate them into an art piece to enjoy when we need to remind ourselves that there is more to life than "doing".
Also featured are new stained glass and ceramic mosaics by the magical Anna Meyrick & beaded and acrylic icons and wall shrines by Zemula Fleming.  Live music will be provided by classical guitarist Dan Golden and light appetizers will be served.
3.       Paul Brent Pop-Up Gallery and Studio, 604 Broadway
Artist Paul Brent will be showing new watercolors completed on a recent trip to France.  The new works feature scenes of Paris, the Normandy Coast and the villages and chateaux of the Loire Valley.  
Limestone cliffs of Normandy reflect the towering parapets of castles and cathedrals in watercolors that reflect the national romance of the Impressionists.  Come visit with Paul Brent about this experience in his second year in a Pop-Up Studio on Broadway is co-sponsored by the Gilbert Block Building and Fairweather Gallery. 
4.       Pacific Heirloom, 608 Broadway
Featuring “Oregon-grown” antiques, art and collectibles presented by Kay Kenny. For September, carved wood art will be showcased.
David M. Neff is a former contractor/ homebuilder from Canby. He started woodcarving and building furniture about two years ago.  He uses specialty woods, which he harvests himself.  Most pieces are carved out of one piece of wood.  The wood itself shows him what he needs to make out of it.
5.       Fairweather House and Gallery, 612 Broadway
Opening reception for Color and Shape, an exhibition, featuring new contemporary art of regional artists Bill Baily, Diane Copenhaver, Tanya Gardner, Renée Hafeman, Mike Mason, Emily Miller, Zifen Qian and Jorjett Strumme, as well as  introducing new artists Donna Sanson and Candy Swartz. The show covers every aspect of art, textures, materials and finishes, highlighting the quintessentially colorful fall season.
“Color and Shape are key elements in the language of abstract art.  Both of these elements of design offer infinite possibilities to communicate visually. Both have the power to create an energy that is almost palpable.   Whether cool and calming, warm and energizing, light or dark, color can transport us to another place or time.   Shape can create an illusion, a feeling, or sense of something.  In my current art work, I have used both of these elements of design incorporating colors inspired by the beautiful Oregon coast and explored the continuum of abstraction through shape,” Diane Copenhaver.
Fall habitat lecture by naturalist and wildlife photographer Neal Maine at 6: pm.  Live music by Shirley 88.  Light bites and beverages.
6.       Art in the Loft Gallery at Beach Books, 616 Broadway
Art-in-the-Loft at Beach Books presents Consu Tolosa, a mixed media painter from Portland, for its September showing. Consu, born in Montevideo, Uruguay, has called Portland, Oregon her home since 1997. Her new collection of bright, dynamic mixed-media abstracts, and figurative works explore and depict the complexity of emotions contained in human relationships. Originally trained as an Art Therapist, Consu is interested in the relationship between psychological processes and creative expression. Her art practice is fueled by curiosity, experimentation, discovery and the pleasure of the process itself.
7.The Whet Spot, 12 N. Holladay Drive
The Whet Spot offers a relaxed, friendly and “adults only” atmosphere, where patrons can catch up with old friends while enjoying craft beers, ciders and wines. No minors permitted at any time.  Featuring the art of pouring with twenty rotating taps for craft beers and ciders, a Growler filling station and offering wines by the glass.
8.       Starry Night Inn, 811 1st Ave
An art motel by the sea located in a Victorian villa where each room features art from Oregon artists.  The art at the motel is curated by Chris Haberman. Starry Night Inn continues to feature Brenda Dunn, artist/illustrator. Brenda's specialty is her vintage inspired pinups that capture the sultry, glamour of the forties and fifties. Her work was featured in three seasons of TV show Portlandia.   She also specializes in fashion illustration and has had work featured in Portland and New York Fashion Weeks. 
9.Westport Winery Seaside, 810 Broadway
As part of this evening of art, Westport will be featuring its 34 unique labels featuring original art by the family and friends. "Filled with harmonious connections to the sea, Westport Winery is a coast traveler's dream."  Westport Winery won Double Gold at the Savor NW Competition with our 2014 Maritime Sparkling Riesling!
10.      Blue Bond Studio and Gallery, 417 S Holladay Drive
Amazing paintings by artist Blue Bond done in oil on canvas. Animals, people, still life, and wonderful scenery pictures will delight Art Walk guests. Blue Bond is a local artist in Seaside. He paints and teaches in oil and acrylic to novices and experienced painters alike. 
 
11.      Gilbert District Gallery, 613 Broadway
Featuring Lisa Sofia Robinson, formerly a professional photographer for 22 years, Lisa recently began a new career as a full time artist. She now produces digital color studies for giclees as well as creating original acrylic paintings on canvas. Lisa loves color, texture and contrasts! The gallery is a co-op shared by artists from Washington and Oregon.
12.      Shine Fair Trade, 609 Broadway
Featuring exclusive jewelry and art where everything is handmade, as a member of the Fair Trade Federation Moxie demonstrates a genial and equitable approach to conducting business. All of the wonderful fair trade and handmade clothing, jewelry and home decor gifts you have come to expect are waiting to be discovered.
