July 7 Seaside First Saturday Art Walk

Celebrating 14 years in 2018, the next Seaside First Saturday Art Walk, will be held on July 7, 5-7: pm. The event is free and is all about seeing and selling art in sponsoring businesses between Holladay and Broadway in the historic area of downtown Seaside.

Peddler's Row, 600 Broadway
Featuring vintage original oils, designer goods, work created by artisans, and collectibles gathered from all over the country! Peddler's Row is a new-old business curated by Avery Loschen and Will Perkins, property owners of the Gilbert Block Building.
 
SunRose Gallery, 606 Broadway
Longtime local favorite Patty Thurlby is our featured artist for the month of July. With her whimsical mixed media talents, Patty will be presenting the realities and fantasies of a "Summer by the Sea" using locally-found upcycled  "ephemera"  materials, such as  driftwood, whimsical themed jars and more Her affordable art is perfect for beach momentos, home decor and uplifting gifts. SunRose also represents 23 other local and regional artists working in mosaic, felt, oils, acrylic and steampunk. Light appetizers will be served and live music. 
 
Pacific Heirloom, 608 Broadway
Featuring “Oregon-grown” antiques, art and collectibles presented by Kay Kenny. The Cannon Beach proprietor, a retired insurance broker, becomes the “new-old” kid on the Gilbert District Block.
 
 Fairweather House and Gallery, 612 Broadway
Opening artist’s reception for “Ocean Folk”, an exhibition featuring NW acclaimed artists: fused glass by Lori Bedard, oil and watercolor paintings by Paul Brent, oil paintings Victoria Brooks, abstract paintings  Barbara Martin, whimsical art by Marga Stanley, acrylic paintings by Jan Shield.  Introducing watercolorist Bonnie Belden-Doney, who has been painting since her youth and has a uniqueness that is captivating of time and moment. Her paintings are beyond enjoying from a passing glance and tend to draw viewers to a memory of visiting the beach.
Unveiling of 100 Turtles project by artist Emily Miller, who has spent the early summer sculpting tiny ceramic sea turtles: curling and shaping two hundred front flippers and carving details into two hundred eyes. 25% of July sale proceeds in support of conservation.
“I have spent my life on the coast, and all my artwork has its roots in my love of the sea. I see the coast as a border between the known and the unknown, and a place where our connection to larger natural systems becomes clear. My artwork focuses on the delight of exploring this mysterious and beautiful environment. I found a positive voice in SeaLegacy, a conservation group creating a movement towards healthy oceans through visual storytelling. 25% of July sale proceeds in support of SeaLegacy,”  Emily Miller.
Artists in attendance will offer talks about their “Ocean Folk” artwork. Eagle conservation lecture by naturalist Neal Maine at 6:pm. Painting Seaside LIVE™ demonstrations by Brent, Brooks and Carolyn Macpherson. Light bites and music by Shirley 88.  

Art in the Loft Gallery at Beach Books, 616 Broadway
Featuring Patti Isaacs in her encore exhibit, "From the Land of the Rising Sun" a collection of brilliant, eloquently crafted, paper art pieces on wood and canvas. Inspiration is everywhere when Patti travels, and she certainly found that true in her travels to Japan. The serenity of the ancient gardens alongside the bold structures of the temples and castles filled her with awe and wonder. In addition, the Seaside group playing fourteen ukuleles returns for an encore!  The group promotes community involvement, entertainment and social interaction based in the beautiful North coast region.  

The Whet Spot, 12 N. Holladay Drive
The Whet Spot offers a relaxed, friendly and “adults only” atmosphere, where patrons can catch up with old friends while enjoying craft beers, ciders and wines. No minors permitted at any time.  Featuring the art of pouring with twenty rotating taps for craft beers and ciders, a Growler filling station and offering wines by the glass. Featuring fused glass artist Barbara Wells. 

Westport Winery Seaside, 810 Broadway
In 2016 Westport Winery was honored as one of the top twenty most-admired wineries in North America by Winery & Vineyard Management Magazine. The business earned Best Winery, Best Wine Shop, and Best Boutique Winery for 2016 by South Sound Magazine. They received the Grays Harbor Environmental Stewardship Award in 2015. They were named the Best Washington Family Business Silver Medal winners in 2012 by Seattle Business Magazine. And in 2011 they garnered Washington Winery to Watch by Wine Press Northwest. 

Gilbert District Gallery, 613 Broadway
Featuring Steven A. Bash, Seaside fine art photographer and artist. The gallery, a co-op shared by artists from Washington and Oregon features original watercolors, bronzes, giclees, prints, Native American jewelry, oil paints, greeting cards, nature designs and gifts.  

Moxie Shine Fair Trade Boutique, 609 Broadway
Supporting over 100 non-profits, men, and women's artisan cooperatives from all over the world. Featuring delightful and hip clothing, jewelry, gifts and home goods. Moxie offers exclusive jewelry and art where everything is handmade. As a member of the Fair Trade Federation Moxie demonstrates a genial and equitable approach to conducting business.  

Blue Bond Studio and Gallery, 417 S Holladay Drive
Featuring amazing paintings by artist Blue Bond done in oil on canvas. Animals, people, still life, and wonderful scenery pictures delight guests. Blue is also a teacher, and enjoys passing on his vast knowledge to novices and experienced painters alike.  In addition, Blue Bond offers stunning commissioned portraits in oil.

Starry Night Inn, 811 1st Ave
An art motel by the sea located in a Victorian villa where each room features art from Oregon artists.  This motel offers artist residencies. The art at the motel is curated by Chris Haberman. For the summer, Starry Night Inn features Brenda Dunn, artist/illustrator and curator. Brenda's specialty is her vintage inspired pinups that capture the sultry, glamour of the forties and fifties. Her work was featured in three seasons of TV show Portlandia.   She also specializes in fashion illustration and has had work featured in Portland and New York Fashion Weeks.
