This 9 week series is not only a competition between storytellers, it is also a competition between towns!

Each week, storytellers in Long Beach, Astoria and Seaside, stand up and tell a story with the common theme.

Winners compete in a grand slam, and a chance at a cash prize.

Our SPECIAL GUEST this week is Mayor Jay Barber. Jay competed in the 2019 Seaside Story Slam, won the weekly competition and then went on to win the GRAND SLAM!!!! We are so excited to welcome him back, not only as a special guest, but also as a judge for the Pacific Story Slam Grand Slam!

Here is a little more about this fabulous storyteller.

Dr. Jay A. Barber, Jr. is President Emeritus of Warner Pacific College in Portland, Oregon, after retiring following a twelve year stint as president. Prior to his role at the college, Barber served as the chief fundraising officer and Director of the Oregon Health Sciences University Foundation.

Active in the community, Barber served as a director for 15 years and 2 years as chair of the Board of Directors of Mercy Corps, a relief and disaster organization based in Portland. In addition he served as chair of the Responder Life Board of Directors, a Portland based not-for-profit serving the needs of first responders and their families. In 2008 Barber was appointed the first Senior Fellow with the M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust, Vancouver, WA. Jay was elected to the Seaside City Council and was appointed to fill out the unexpired term as Mayor of Seaside upon the death of long-time Mayor Don Larson, he was recently elected for a full 4-year term as Seaside’s mayor.

Barber currently provides consultation services to a wide range of not-for-profit organizations in the Northwest assisting with strategic planning, fund raising strategies, board development, staff recruitment and coaching with new and emerging leaders. His special interest is in providing coaching with CEOs, Presidents and Executive Directors of not-for-profit organizations based on his 40 years of experience in those challenging roles


This week we will hear stories of "Secrets & Lies".

We all have them... secrets that we keep. What kind of shenanigans did you get up to? Were you sure you were going to get caught? What lies have you told to save you from certain doom? Or perhaps it was a good lie? Maybe it was a secret love... maybe it still is. The stories of Secrets & Lies can be ANYTHING! We know you have a story, and we want to hear all about it!

Members of the audience will vote on who told it best!
