Description
Celebrating 14 years in 2018, the next Seaside First Saturday Art Walk, will be held on October 6, 5-7: pm. The event is free and is all about seeing and selling art in sponsoring businesses between Holladay and Broadway in the historic area of downtown Seaside.
Shine Fair Trade, 609 Broadway Street
Highlighting new merchandise from Tesoros for the El Dia de los Muertos celebration that is held on Nov. 2nd. It is also called All Souls Day, marked to honor the dearly departed, and a day of joyous remembrance, not sadness. In addition, showcasing exclusive jewelry and art where everything is handmade, as a member of the Fair Trade Federation Moxie demonstrates a genial and equitable approach to conducting business.
Peddler's Row, 600 Broadway Street
Featuring vintage original oils, designer goods, work created by artisans, and collectibles gathered from all over the country! Peddler's Row is an antique business curated by Avery Loschen and Will Perkins, property owners of the Gilbert Block Building.
SunRose Gallery, 606 Broadway Street
The Gallery will be hosting an Open House celebrating all of our wonderful artists! In attendance will be mixed media upcycle artist Patty Thurlby and SunRose owner/pique assiette artist Cathy Tippin. Classical guitarist Dan Golden will provide live music - and possibly be joined by Ray Coffey on flute for a few songs! - And as always, tasty refreshments will be served.
Pacific Heirloom, 608 Broadway Street
Featuring Steve Bloom, an artist born in 1953, who has the unique ability to combine his mastery of the most ancient printmaking techniques with contemporary processes to create internationally renowned imagery. Also, featuring “Oregon-grown” antiques, art and collectibles presented by Kay Kenny.
Fairweather House and Gallery, 612 Broadway Street
Opening reception for Exploring New Surfaces, an exhibition curated by Agnes Field, Astoria based artist with a Master’s Degree in Studio Fine Art from New York University. The work included in this exhibit use either new materials or methods and techniques to amplify the meaning in the content of their art. Adding or embedding new materials to the surface creates surprise, and occasionally, deeper interpretation and understanding of the subject. The exhibit will include Leah Kohlenberg and Kathy Moberg and Carmela Newstead.
“I have been drawing and painting for 18 years, but the work you will see for Exploring New Surfaces is entirely new for me. These pastels and oil paintings are inspired by the Oregon coast, but the colors are wild and bright (sometimes whacky) and the land forms are intentionally abstract. This is to allow some of the raw brushwork and initial power that comes from an artistic first impression. It’s also an attempt to share the more vibrantly colorful world that’s in my head onto the canvas. Art Walk visitors will be the first people to see these works. They have all been made this year, with this venue in mind. Many thanks for being the number one audience.”
Habitat lecture by naturalist and wildlife photographer Neal Maine at 6: pm. Live music by Shirley 88. Light bites and beverages.
Art in the Loft Gallery at Beach Books, 616 Broadway Street
Art-in-the-Loft at Beach Books presents Vanessa Kalani Stokes with an art stand of her more of traditional anime work. The word anime is often defined as “animation from Japan.” When you see “anime,” images of large eyes, funny and colorful hair, and peculiar fashion come to mind.
The Whet Spot, 12 N. Holladay Drive
The Whet Spot offers a relaxed, friendly and “adults only” atmosphere, where patrons can catch up with old friends while enjoying craft beers, ciders and wines. Featuring the art of pouring with twenty rotating taps for craft beers and ciders, a Growler filling station and offering wines by the glass.
Starry Night Inn, 811 1st Ave
An art motel by the sea located in a Victorian villa where each room features art from Oregon artists. The art at the motel is curated by Chris Haberman.
Westport Winery Seaside, 810 Broadway
Kim Roberts of Westport Winery launches the Bigfoot Habitat Garden. “We are simply delighted with our wonderful mix of businesses in this building, formerly called Salmonberry Square. Along with Westport Winery Seaside we have Seaside Kites (so fun!), Rust & Dust (a huge antique store), Seaside Spa and Massage (just the prettiest space), Salon on Broadway (super hip and friendly), and Capricorn Pub (opening soon). This incredible group of entrepreneurs is so committed to the revival and renewal of this part of the historic Gilbert District of downtown Seaside.”
Blue Bond Studio and Gallery, 417 S Holladay Drive
Amazing paintings by artist Blue Bond done in oil on canvas. Animals, people, still life, and wonderful scenery pictures will delight Art Walk guests. Blue Bond is a local artist in Seaside. He paints and teaches in oil and acrylic to novices and experienced painters alike.
