Description
2024 marks the 20th year of Treasure the Beach, monthly beach cleanups occurring on the first Saturday of every month in Seaside, Oregon. There’s nothing better than wiggling your toes in the sand, hearing the cry of the seagulls overhead and tasting the salty ocean mist. When the beach is dirty, though, it can dampen the experience for everyone. Approximately 14 billion pounds of garbage — from water bottles to food wrappers — are discarded into the ocean each year. Beach trash isn’t just unsightly; it’s dangerous to wildlife and for kids and bare feet. Luckily, visitors and local volunteers are playing a huge role in keeping our beaches clean. Meeting Location: Weather dependent, volunteers will meet at the beach entrance in front of the Seaside Aquarium or in the Seaside Aquarium's gift shop. Address: 200 N. Prom. Seaside, OR 97138 What to Bring: Volunteers are encouraged to bring any personal supplies that will help our resources go further such as garbage bags, work gloves, buckets, trash grabbers, etc. If you bring personal belongings wear a backpack so that you can pick up trash hands free. Wear closed-toed shoes and dress for the weather. Bring a rain jacket if the forecast calls for rain and wear sunscreen and a hat if it is sunny. This event will go on rain or shine. And it is also recommended that volunteers bring a re-usable water bottle to stay hydrated during the event. What's Provided: We will provide gloves and bags. A limited number of grabbers are available on a first come basis.
